Learn@Work
At Orange's Ecole des Métiers Techniques, a global approach to transforming training towards more hands-on training using on-the-job training.
Client
The Orange Group is one of the world’s leading telecommunications and digital services operators.
Objective
Following the successful pilot of workplace-based training (AFEST), the École des Métiers Techniques d’Orange—responsible for the technical training of 25,000 learners across Orange France—sought to scale this effective modality through the "Learn @Work" project.
Workplace-based training was chosen to shift the focus towards practical skill acquisition in the field, aligning with the 70/20/10 model, where experiential learning is recognized as the most impactful yet has been paradoxically underutilized.
The aim is to:
Leverage internal experts to transmit their know-how.
Create expert communities capable of supporting employees' learning needs.
However, it became clear that without a structured tool, deploying the initiative at scale was not feasible.
The approach involved:
Developing an AFEST methodology.
Establishing organizational structures to support deployment.
Digitalizing the initiative with Daylindo to enable large-scale management of workplace-based training.
Daylindo Solution
Daylindo supported the École des Métiers Techniques d’Orange in its deployment by:
Providing the Daylindo Platform:
Centralized management of the initiative, including shared instructional design, AFEST tracking, training hours monitoring, learner pathways, and competency portfolios.
Facilitating the coordination and animation of internal AFEST mentors and facilitators.
Supporting Organizational AFEST Development:
Training internal facilitators and mentors.
Assisting in the instructional design of AFEST for targeted programs.
Integrating with LMS (Cornerstone On Demand):
Consolidation of training hours.
Making the AFEST catalog accessible.
Enabling multimodal learning pathways.
Results
Team Growth:
Over 100 AFEST mentors and 450 facilitators integrated into the program, forming the backbone of a peer-learning organization.Extensive Catalog:
A catalog of 150 workplace-based training programs established.Scalability:
More than 1,000 employees trained in 2024.
Beyond these metrics, the École des Métiers Techniques d’Orange transitioned from a training-centered approach to a skills-focused strategy. This shift also led to a rationalization of the training catalog, further enhancing efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.
